As mentioned that most of the successful SME’s don’t plan and sometimes even the larger one might not do so. The underlying factor here is that too much planning is not good for the health of the organization. Having a plan is important there to measure one’s progress. Without it a business may lead to bankruptcy or insolvency but for the individual it would mean psychological disorder: leading to extensive under-stress, depression and in the end a low self-esteem.
The idea is to plan with a clear objective in mind and to use tactics to achieve that goal. The idea is not to become more powerful, intelligent etc but its about adapting to yourself to changes. Changes are evident in every aspect of our life and that’s why there is a strong emphasis on it at a higher level like the operating your business. The change in that aspect is the transformation from a founder managed firm to a professional firm. It’s easy to just accept and base your knowledge on the theoretical concepts, but how it works in reality in smaller and larger organizations push the challenges and complexities of changes to a higher degree. That is the reason, why most business schools and business plans encourages students to “Think Big”.
Conflicts: This term brings an uncomfortable feeling and is waivered on the basis that it depends on the individual to solve it. However it’s the process that makes this conflict aspect so daunting.
A leader’s task is not a simple one then, the soft skills are what helps in solving conflicts in a constructive way. The PT Timah case helped us to understand the possible conflicts that can arise in a real paradigm and the way the solutions implemented by Dr. Kuntoro to achieve the desired results seems out of our own grasp…it makes you think can we actually do that?
The answer is yes, here persistence and patience marks our well being. In (Wiklund & Dahlqvist,2007), they mentioned that it doesn’t take super humans to perform those roles. The idea is to acquire these skills as Master students for building our personality and creating a platform for our future careers.
